Research - Stage 2 (cont.)

The Panoramic Hotel at Karnala in Mumbai, India was original a design that won in an invited competition. It is a spiral looking hotel designed by a Mumbai firm called Planet 3 Studio Architecture Pvt. Ltd. The spiral design creates an out-of-the-box symmetry that compliments the environment very well. The entrance to this building is from the south into the lobby. From the lobby, the administration area is to the left and to the right is a lounge area. There is a lounge area at the entrance to each hallway of rooms. Each room has horizontal louvers to help against the heat of the sun while still allowing natural light into each room and the complex. Some of the louvers light up at night creating a floating lantern appeal. Each room also has a private balcony with a personal view to the abundant green surroundings to form a local bird sanctuary. On the main floor along with the lobby and lounges are restaurants, spa, health club, cafe and a large pool, all located within the central core of the building. Throughout the hotel, there are 4 sets of spiral staircases to the lower level where there is another level of rooms with more basic amenities, while the upper/main level is composed of suites.
Unfortunately, the local building codes limit the construction to just the ground and first floors.
